Leading industry body the UK Fashion and Textile Association (UKFT) has revealed the shortlist for the NatWest UK Fashion & Textile Awards 2013. The highly anticipated gala awards will take place on May 23 at One Mayfair in London where the winners will be announced.

Following the re-launch of the Awards this year, UKFT received a record number of entries with a fantastic range of womenswear, menswear, accessories and textile businesses all shortlisted for prizes.

The companies that made the shortlist will have some of their collections shown on the night of the Awards in a striking fashion show which will be produced by Fashion Scout. This will be a true celebration of the great businesses and talent making up the industry today.

Businesses in the running include companies that have been running for just a few years, to those which have been trading for over 150 years; proving once more that heritage and tradition along with exciting young talent, design and innovation are making the textiles and fashion coming out of this country the most sought after across the world.

When choosing the shortlist the judges were looking for excellence not only in creativity, design and innovations, but also how each company performed commercially and the campaigns and collaborations making some businesses soar despite a tough financial climate.

UKFT chief executive John Miln said: “The judges had an unenviable task as the entries this year were all exceptionally strong and very diverse in what they were bringing to the market and how they had been thriving in difficult times. The entries were inspiring and showed us all that the fashion and textile industry is world class and still leads the way not only creatively but also commercially.”

He added: “At UKFT we are working with businesses every day from those making their very first steps to some of the most respected and long-running businesses in this country. We work hard to help these businesses flourish both domestically and on the international stage so to see so many businesses excelling is wonderful. We cannot wait to celebrate with all of our shortlisted companies at the Awards some truly remarkable achievements.”
