First of all, get a flat surface without any kind of texture to it. You could use a piece of paper if you like. Get some specialized metal clay, which will transform into silver once fired. Roll a small piece of the clay out using a plastic rolling pin.

Once your clay is ready, it's time to get the fingerprint from the little one. Make sure they wash and dry their hands first, and ensure you get a perfectly visible fingerprint for which to work with.

Now you will need to use a cutter to cut out the shape for whatever you are making, whether it is a necklace, ring or cufflink. Save the excess clay for something else in the future, and then leave the clay to dry. If you like, you can speed this part up by using a hairdryer, but that's entirely up to you.

If you leave it to dry naturally, leave if for a whole night because if it isn't completely dry, it will crack when fired, which will completely ruin it. When it is dried, use an emery board or nail file to gently smooth around the edges.

Now pop the clay onto a heatproof surface and use a torch to heat it. When it starts glowing at a pink/red color, you need to keep heating it for another couple of minutes before removing the heat. When finished, it won't actually look like silver at this point, so don't worry if it doesn't. Use a pair of tweezers to pick it up and drop it into a cup of water to cool off.

Use a brass brush under water to gently scrub the white layer off the silver. If the silver doesn't appear, you will need to dry it off and heat it again. To finish off, use polishing papers to polish it off.

With time and practice, you will be able to master this somewhat complicated process, and make quality jewellery for yourself. Whether you want to make money from it or just have a new skill, it's a great thing to learn.

Laminate The Page

Poster Printing - Which Paper to Use for Your Poster Designs

When it comes to purchasing a custom printed poster from your own design what are the main differences between the papers that you can choose from. This article is designed to help you select the best option in order to display your poster design at its best.

While many purchase posters off the shelf a large number of people are designing their own posters with programs such as Adobe Photoshop, In-Design, or even Microsoft PowerPoint and having them printed to custom size. Custom printed posters can be quite expensive so obviously those purchasing them will want to ensure they get the best quality print for their money.

The first thing to determine is which type of paper the poster is going to be printed on. The most common types are matt papers, satin & gloss photo papers, each of these papers have their own unique qualities but all are suitable for poster printing.

Matt Poster Papers are best used where certain lighting conditions can affect the view of the poster as they do not reflect much light making the posters viewable from all different angles. They have quite a large colour gamut meaning that the printed colours will be a very good match to the screen colours that were used when designing the poster.

Gloss Poster Papers are ideal for that photographic look and feel. They are the perfect choice for designs such as photo collages or large photo prints. They have a much large colour gamut than matt papers and are able to produce stunning photo quality prints with the colours being an extremely close match to the screen colours. Due to the glossy finish they can suffer from light reflection but this can usually be decreased by positioning the poster where the lighting does not shine directly onto it causing glare.

Satin Poster Papers are a semi-gloss and have a larger colour gamut than the matt papers but not as large as the gloss so the colours will not be so vibrant. They tend to have a slightly textured appearance which helps to reduce light reflection whilst still having that photographic look. This makes them a better choice than the gloss if the posters are going to be displayed in brightly lit rooms.

Another thing to consider is the weight of the papers which is measured in gsm (grams per square metre). Ideally matt posters should be printed on at least 180gsm as this will ensure that the poster remains in good condition especially if it will be put away and re-used from time to time, with the gloss or satin papers 200gsm or above is ideal.

To ensure that the poster remains in perfect condition consider having it encapsulated (laminated font and back) as this will help stop fading and creasing.

You may also want to check what inks are being used to print the poster. Always try to use a printing company that uses at least 8 ink colourants in their printers as they provide a much greater range of colours than printer using just 4 inks. Printers using 8 inks or more are able to produce true photographic quality at up to 2400dpi.

I mentioned above about the printed colours matching the screen colours. To ensure that the printed colours do match your screen always use the "Proof Colour" option in programs such as Adobe Photoshop or similar. The proofing option should be set to the type of printer that the poster will be printed on, for example it should be set to CMYK (swop) for printing onto commercial CMYK printers or set to Adobe RGB or sRGB if being printed onto an RGB photo printer. RGB is the best choice as it has a much larger colour gamut than CMYK. Also if it is possible ask the printing company for the icc profile used for their particular ink and paper settings as this would provide an even closer screen to print match. This is a small file that simulates the printer inks and papers of the printer being used to print the poster.

A last suggestion is to always compare poster printing companies, check which printers and papers they use and also view their customer reviews, if they have lots of happy customers it's likely that you will be one too.

From Nike's "Just Do It" to McDonald's "I'm Lovin' It", they say something special about the brand and company behind it. The best taglines make us think, make us smile or offer a clever twist on the brand - that's how they operate. Some taglines are as famous as the logo design, often to the point that the memorable slogan renders the logo unnecessary. This isn't particularly something that can be said of a new business, more of an established identity over many years.

Your strapline can back up the ethos of your logo. It can communicate the benefits of your brand above your competitors.

Tagline Communication: What should it do?

Your tagline is designed to provide further definition of your company's service or product. A rock solid strapline will communicate your brand promise or message. Your tagline needs to be succinct to be successful and needs to linger in the mind of the visitor. It is the mental footprint you want your clients and passers-by to remember.

A tagline can also be a way of furthering the value of your company and provide an additional persuasive push. It can be an integral part of your logo design or a separate element to be used within further branding. A catchy slogan should be descriptive enough to evoke something from your client and should be judged along four main lines:

• Longevity - does it stand the test of time? Some taglines are very much rooted to their decade, The New York Times' for example used "All the News that's fit to Print" throughout the 1980's.
• Portability/Memorability - does it have an impact on our culture, media or language? Is it something we regularly hear round and about?
• Equity - has it become synonymous with the brand or product?
• Originality - has it done something different to stand out from the crowd? Has it broken new ground in the industry?

These four variables are more applicable to larger brands, but there's no reason you shouldn't keep them in mind when brainstorming ideas.

Do you need a Tagline?

Many logos are designed to stand the test of time without the need for any backup, but in some instances a catchy slogan can make all the difference. A tagline can be the differentiator between your brand and the rest of the market. An amazing tagline may be exactly what you need to stay in the mind of a potential client.

People become superstitious about numbers and have 'favourite' and 'unlucky' numbers, but is there a reason that we attach so much meaning to numbers? This article looks at some of the interesting qualities of numbers and the connections we create between them and makes a few suggestions as to why we maybe do this.

Numbers are often thought of as 'special' somehow, they signify something more than words but the irony of this is that numbers are associated with words and meanings and that is how they become 'special'. It's a sensitive subject admittedly but the attack on the World Trade Centre in America was carried out on September 11th 2001 which, in America is written as 9/11/2001 and the day has become known as 911. It doesn't take much to realise that this is also the Emergency Number for North America. It is therefore presumed that this is no coincidence and the attackers did it to convey a meaning of some description - what exactly that was shouldn't be speculated on - but the point is the numbers. They have been used as a sort of code which indicates a global understanding that numbers connote different meanings to simple words.

Although the aforementioned number is already 'special' because it's the Emergency Number for North America and therefore is known by the entire continent but people play with phone numbers and see what meanings they can extract from them. On a phone keypad, numbers from two to nine have a minimum of three letters assigned as a second function to them so for instance the '2' button can also be used for 'A', 'B' or 'C'. Therefore groups of numbers, such as phone numbers, can be interpreted as words. The connotations that can be found here can be read as meaningful or superstitious, or just fun, but whichever way you look at it there are double meanings to numbers they are not just face value.

Phone numbers can also be used in this way for advertising purposes - businesses can pay for numbers that spell out their product or business name in order to make them easier to remember and therefore people are more likely to call them. This works particularly well with food stuffs, a phone number that spells out 'pizza' for instance is likely to get a high volume of calls because if you're hungry for pizza but can't find a number it is more likely that you will remember this number.

The Smartphone Face-Off: Galaxy S4 Versus iPhone 5

Advances in cell phone technology have reached amazing levels in the last decade alone. So amazing in fact, that these mobile devices are now rightfully called 'smartphones.' You can, of course, still use them to call the office as well as friends and family, but smartphones have so much more to offer.

Lost and getting low on fuel? A smartphone can give you turn-by turn directions to the nearest gas station. In doubt as to whether that mushroom you picked is safe to eat? Use your smartphone to go online and find out. Tired of forgetting deadlines, your anniversary, or items on your grocery list? You can program your smartphone to remind (and alert) you of these dates and other important details of your life in less time than it takes for you to write all the information down (on a piece of paper you will probably misplace). Smartphones are, indeed, aptly named.

The Leading Contenders

The two leading smartphones on the market today are Samsung's Galaxy S4 and Apple's iPhone 5. Websites abound comparing the various features of these two phones from their weight, screen size, and body material down to the minutest detail such as the aperture size of their cameras. A quick look shows Galaxy S4 as being 0.64 ounces heavier than the iPhone 5, with a 5-inch screen compared to iPhone's four inches. It is made from polycarbonate material versus iPhone's aluminum unibody construction. No information is given as to the aperture size of the S4's camera, but the iPhone 5 has it listed as being F2.4.

Both phones have back-illuminated sensors, auto-focus, face detection, and digital image stabilization. There is practically no differentiating features between the two phones as far as their multi-media capacity is concerned. Both come in only two colors - black or white.

Making the Smart Choice

There are so many more features that these websites go into in such great detail, that one can literally get lost in the statistics and differing opinions. In the end, only one opinion should matter - yours. After all, it is your phone. You will be the one holding this mobile device in your hands, using it with ease (or difficulty), and learning to use all these features (or, desperately trying to). If the screen's pixel density matters to you (S4 has 441 ppi versus the iPhone 5 which has 326 ppi), lean towards the phone that clearly gives you a better picture. If you want a smartphone that can give you turn-by-turn navigation, choose the one that does (the iPhone 5 does, the S4 does not).

In the final analysis, deciding between the Galaxy S4 and the iPhone 5 is akin to making a fashion choice - it's mostly a matter of preference and taste. They are both great smartphones with remarkable features that just a few short years ago were virtually impossible to squeeze in a laptop, let alone a mobile device that fits in the palm of your hands. Make the choice that's right for you.

HTC One - Is It Really the "One"?

HTC One is a name which seems to be hanging on the tip of every smartphone lover's tongue these days, and rightly so, as this Android phone single-handedly managed to not only slow down HTC's downfall as a smartphone manufacturer, but also to revive a bit of their old glamour, by showing a reasonable profit. This requires some further explanation, and we'll be more than willing to oblige; Most of the users must be aware of HTC's resources dwindling during the last couple of years. Though the Taiwanese firm managed to launch quite a few handsets in the past couple of years, none of them showed the leadership quality which would make them being termed as the "Hot-Favorites" of the season. To add to this blow, a couple of HTC's high-ranking officials left their jobs earlier this year, stating they didn't see any future in the company.

When it seemed that all was lost, and the hour of the "Armageddon" was just a stone's throw away, the company launched the HTC One. When this device was first introduced to the market, it had to face an enormous amount of competition in the form of iPhone 5 and the Samsung Galaxy S4, but still it managed to sail through and create a fan base, in fact this underdog even managed to outshine the above mentioned handsets in many countries. Though the heroic tales of this handsome piece of machinery are never-ending, this is not the reason why one opts for this device, the real reason why this head-turner is held in such high regard is because it looks awesome, and works even more efficiently.

When it comes to smart features in an Android phone, this device just falls short of slaying a dragon by converting into a Jedi sword or something, it supports BlinkFeed which makes you be a part of Social Networks or news and feeds, you want constant updates about, by placing them conveniently on your Home screen; the other important features included are Zoe which makes your very own live breathing gallery, which though seems freaky, is actually really awesome, it also features BoomSound, interactive TV guide, and Sense Voice which ensures call clarity, even when a "flash-mob" is performing right next to you.

The outer frame of the handset is pure aluminium, which makes it tough as well as gives it a really rich feel, something which was found lacking in the Samsung S4. The front of the frame has two stereo speakers with built-in amplifiers fitted right-above and just-below a massive 4.7 inch Super LCD3 capacitive touchscreen, which feels ultra-responsive to use. This screen offers 469 pixel density and has been protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass 2 while it is powered by HTC Sense UI v5. The front of this LTE supporting handset also offers a 2.1 MP secondary camera, which besides being brilliant for video chatting, also supports HDR, although the whole phone has proven to be something refreshingly new, the main innovation by HTC has been in the form of a rear 4 MP autofocus camera with LED flash, which comes installed with something called the Ultra-pixels, though many users argue that this sounds a lot like Nokia's PureView technology, which was introduced more than a year back, let us assure you it isn't! The ultra-pixels just fill in extra pixels wherever the camera couldn't manage to place them, making the picture a lot more lifelike by adding a whole new dimension of colors.

At the time of its launch this handset came running on Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean OS, which can now be upgraded to the latest version of Android which is being called the 4.2.2 Jelly Bean from your app store. Whether you want to juggle your way through screens, or load heavy websites, or open and use huge apps, you can do all this within a blink of an eyelid, as it is powered by a massive 1.7 GHz Quad-core Qualcomm Krait 300 Snapdragon 600 processor with 2 GB of RAM and Adreno 320 GPU.

If you are planning to go in for this device, then you will be able to own it in either of the two 32GB or 64GB variants whose memories cannot be expanded, and in three colors which reportedly are Black, Silver and Red (which is a new addition). Using this phone even for a small duration is enough to make you realize that it is the 'One' you won't mind if not your entire life then at least the next couple of years with.
